the art of Africa~

Ok, so here was the progression....
It took several tries to get to this point....There were 3 main things I was truly amazed by in Africa~ #1 How so many women used this technique for carrying their groceries home after miles at a time of walking. The extreme talent it took to balance something like this on your head, and these women walked around as if it were nothing. Like second nature! Still, I am amazed at how our culture is so different here in America.

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
I had chills.....This song described my journey there, to a tee. I had really gone, just trusting God for where He had plans to lead me or show me. I was open. And so was He. The sound of that song was the last thing I remember hearing before falling asleep. What woke me up was even more amazing than I could have imagined. At exactly 3:52am, i awoke to the sound of a Lion roaring in our camp! It took me a minute, but only a minute. When i realized what i was hearing, i was beside myself. My first instinct was to get up and open the door. Crazy i know, but the sound was amazing, and all i could think of was this King of the jungle, here in our camp, roaring, and i wanted to see!! I didn't do that, but laying there hearing that repetition of his roar was chilling, let alone it was -1degree celsius. Freezing! And so i lay there, soaking up the sound. And that roar continued at least 7 or 8 times. I don't know if topping that moment is ever going to be an option. It was THE highlight of the trip! And there were more things to speak of, but this i'll never forget! And Africa, i'll never forget!!
Red lipstick, and all that that implies....
I recall being 24 or so and working for Bobbi Brown at the time. I had mother-daughter Latino clients come in and they were a blast! After getting through an entire makeup lesson with much laughter and onto lipstick discussions, i mentioned how sometimes being blonde and wearing red lipstick sorta made me feel like a hooker. My client quickly rewrote that story for me... She gently grabbed my chin and said huunnny, no... (that was exactly the way she pronounced it). She said, "Wearing RED on your lips exudes confidence..." And all of life changed in that moment! Not really...but seriously, my FEAR of RED lips forever disappeared into the abyss of neutral colors that lined the bottom of my handbag!
Reds can be tricky, but there's one out there for every girl! If you're super uncomfortable, start with a sheer gloss, like Chanel Spark glossimer. It's so fun, with just a hint of red. If you still aren't sure, or aren't fond of glosses, try any sheer type of lipstick in berries or colors that have hints of red in them... Work your way into it!
A few of my faves are:
Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Pirate, $36
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Kate #1, $2.89 (Love, love, love these lipsticks! Want to buy every shade.)
Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Hollywood Red, $25
You may have to make a few adjustments, but lighter cheeks or almost neutral work well with red lips. Eyeliner could be bold or skip it entirely, but either way, try going with a simple eye palette to begin. No rushing here, but 'tis the season, so if there ever was a time, it's now. Show off your ever-so-confident side for the Holidays!

burning that midnight oil....

I meet women AND men all the time that want to know the answer to the lingering question, "how can i get rid of these dark circles under my eyes?"
Well, i have two suggestions for you.... Get some more sleep, and maybe try using an eye cream! Sometimes we're burning the candle at both ends and we just need some rest, & other times we gotta bring in the big dogs! Our poor little under eye area acts like a little swimming pool under the eye, and catches it all. Allergies, poor circulation, lack of sleep, stress... you name it!
I think the most common assumption is that eye creams may not produce the results they really claim to, and while this may be true for some it's not always the case. Like this little guy from Kiehl's. It's creamy, leaves no greasy residue, contains no parabens, fragrances, silicone, or mineral oils, but packs a powerful punch! It has amazing ingredients like Butcher's Broom, which aids in microcirculation and reducing inflammation. So by the time you wake up, you're looking hotter and hotter, and who doesn't want some O' that?! Plus it's only $36 bucks. Make it happen girls, you won't be disappointed if this describes you~

People often ask the question, "Kerri, if you were stranded on a deserted island, what one skin care item would you want with you?" Well, first, let me just say, i hope that never happens. I'm having flashbacks of Tom Hanks painting faces on soccer balls and other random things... Truth be told, I'd probably not be thinking about skin care. Cause i'm kind of a wanna be hippie, (if not washing your hair for 4 days at a time counts). I'd be thinking about berries and how to make my own lattes and such. But if it did, and if i had to think of one product i'd wish from the desert island fairy, it'd be Rose Aromatic Care from Darphin. I'd probably clean my skin with the backside of a coconut just to have this one thing there!
It's incredibly luxurious... everything about it. From the way it smells, to the bottle. Not to mention, it helps rid the skin of excess debris while you sleep. So it's like you've had tiny little particles cleansing your pores all night long! And who doesn't want that, right?!
But i say this, don't wait to be stranded on a desert island until you try the miracle maker :) Try it right away. It's one of my favorite skin care secrets!
P.s. it comes in 8 different choices to suit your sense of smell and skin needs.
